Bulls land DeRozan in sign-and-trade
Chicago sends Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu to San Antonio
The Chicago Bulls have acquired DeMar DeRozan from the San Antonio Spurs in a sign-and-trade agreement.
The Bulls agreed Tuesday to a three-year, $85 million contract with DeRozan as part of a sign-and-trade with San Antonio, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract cannot be signed until the NBA's free-agency moratorium ends Thursday.
In exchange for DeRozan, the Spurs will be receiving forwards Thaddeus Young and Al-Farouq Aminu, as well as the Bulls' 2025 first-round pick and their 2022 and 2024 second-round picks.
DeRozan, a four-time All-Star, averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists last season for the Spurs. He was traded to San Antonio in the offseason as part of the deal that sent Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors.
The Bulls are hoping that DeRozan can help them take the next step after they finished 31-41 last season and missed the playoffs.
Young, a two-time All-Star, averaged 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Bulls last season. Aminu averaged 7.4 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Blazers last season.
