Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has come under fire for allegedly failing to disclose several luxury trips to Russia, including one aboard a yacht and another to one of President Vladimir Putin's palaces. The allegations stem from a letter sent by two Democratic senators to the Justice Department, requesting a criminal investigation into Thomas.
The senators cited a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation which found that Thomas failed to disclose at least 35 luxury trips, including the ones to Russia. These trips were taken between 2003 and 2019 and were allegedly not reported on Thomas' financial disclosure forms.
The undisclosed trips have raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, as Thomas has ruled on cases involving Russia and Putin in the past. The senators' request for a criminal investigation is the latest development in a growing controversy surrounding Thomas' ethics.
