Wimmer: "It still feels surreal!"

Carolin Wimmer speaks about her impressions after her first World Championships

Ecstasy, success and emotions

The past few days have been a whirlwind for Carolin Wimmer. After her incredible success at the World Championships in Cali, Colombia, the 22-year-old returned to Germany on Tuesday and is still overwhelmed by the emotions. "It still feels surreal," said Wimmer in an interview with leichtathletik.de. "I can't really believe that I'm world champion now."

In Cali, Wimmer sensationally won the gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay together with Alexandra Burghardt, Lisa Mayer and Rebekka Haase. In addition, she reached the final in the 100 meters and finished eighth. "It was an unforgettable experience," said Wimmer. "Being able to compete against the best in the world and then actually winning a medal is a dream come true."

The success in Cali was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication for Wimmer. The native of Regensburg has been training at the Sprintteam Wetzlar under coach Ronald Stein for several years and has made steady progress. This year, she finally made her breakthrough and established herself as one of the best sprinters in Germany.

Wimmer's success is also a great success for German athletics. The German women's 4x100 meter relay has not won a medal at a World Championships since 2009. "We have shown that we are back among the world's best," said Wimmer. "That gives us a lot of confidence for the future."

Wimmer is now looking forward to a short break before starting preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "I want to continue to improve and be even faster," said Wimmer. "My goal is to win a medal in Paris."
